about

Kat Orlando is Queen of Sax in Detroit. The moody, funky, gritty notes that Kat plays on her woodwind instrument have energized the stages of nightclubs and festivals across the nation for decades, and now she is going back to her roots; The FUNK!

Her latest ep “Hypothetical Scenario” digs deep into it, and simmers with a classic R&B/Funk drive that recalls the 1970’s jams of P-Funk, Rick James, Sly Stone, and southern soul with a Detroit edge! The new single “Shoulda Known Betta” comes with the classic feel of the 70s, (and its no wonder since some of the musicians are from the P-Funk family).

The opening track “Wait” emotes the frustration of being completely
isolated in one’s views, carried by a southern groove with Al Green’s touch added via a sample of ‘Love & Happiness’. “Only One” is the quintessential ‘cruisin’ classic - Rick James meets Anita Baker on Belle Isle in 1978; a love song for the ages - personally written for her husband.
“City 4 Sale” laments the state of a city after the corporations leave it to decay - a new and funky ‘What’s Going On’ explained with a WTF-esque delivery.

Needless to say - The EP is a great listen, and an even better buy.
